Introduction

When an application demands some level of feedback, it is rare that a magnetic switch, sensor or encoder cannot service that requirement. In most cases, the use of magnetic technology is preferable. Phoenix America Inc. sets itself apart from other suppliers of magnetic sensor by having the technology to manufacture the magnetic target as well as the magnetic sensor.

Speed Sensors

Phoenix America Inc. speed sensors can be used to determine rotational speeds from zero to 100 kHz with very high resolution. These products are very well suited to almost all industrial environments, eliminating the need for special precautions for dirt, grime, grease, water splashes, cutting fluid splashes, etc. Our speed sensors offer a low cost, industrially sound, high resolution alternative for measuring rotational speed.

Proximity Sensors

Phoenix America Inc. proximity sensors are used to determine the location or passage of a target with very rapid response times and very highly repeatable actuation points. They can easily respond to targets passing by with speeds from zero to 100 kHz.  These products are very well suited to almost all industrial environments, obviating the need for special precautions for dirt, grime, grease, water splashes, cutting fluid splashes, etc. Our proximity sensors offer a low cost, industrially sound, fast response, highly repeatable alternative for measuring proximity and position. The general grouping of proximity sensors is the method of actuation:   

    Permanent magnet actuated
    Ferrous material actuated
    Inductive material actuated

Other specifications to be considered would be   

    Normally open or normally closed  
    Operating gap  
    Housing size or shape 



Magnet actuated sensors generally afford the largest operating air gaps available. Depending on the target and sensor chosen, air gaps exceeding 1/2" are readily attainable in relatively small housings.

Magnet actuated sensors are not susceptible to false triggering in the presence of "non-target" metals, as is very common for inductive sensors.
